The Holy Purple One has decided to bless us mere mortals with new music in the form of an LP titled, HitNRun.
The catch: It’s only going to be available on TIDAL.
The reason: Record label contracts = slavery.
After signing an exclusive deal with Jay Z’s streaming service, Prince has been dropping music only with TIDAL, and has finally announced the release of his next LP, HitNRun, on September 7th.
Prince admitted that his reason for dropping music exclusively through Hov’s new streaming service is because of record labels and their slave contracts.
“Record contracts are just like — I’m gonna say the word – slavery. I would tell any young artist … don’t sign.”
His Purple Holiness backed up the extreme comparison by explaining that artists usually have no power over the music they create, which is why he decided to release his music through TIDAL.
“Once we have our own resources, we can provide what we need for ourselves,” he said. “Jay Z spent $100 million of his own money to build his own service. We have to show support for artists who are trying to own things for themselves.”
I’m assuming until Prince finds a better deal than TIDAL, he’ll be dropping all of his future projects through Jay Z’s streaming service.
