The last time we saw Jamie Foxx cast as the lead in a movie biopic, he portrayed legendary singer Ray Charles in the film Ray in 2004; a film that won numerous accolades and gave Foxx his breakout role in Hollywood.
Now the Oscar winning actor is scheduled to play Boxing Champ Mike Tyson in a new biopic that he’s been getting ready for over five years now, after stating back in 2009 that he wanted the role.
Tyson, who will act as a personal trainer for Jamie, mentioned that right now him and the actor are still in discussion about the movie, but will start filming within 18 months or so.
“We’re going to do the Mike Tyson story and he’s going to portray me, and now they have this new animation; because you know Jamie’s pretty much my age so he can’t portray me but they have this new system.”
Shit, that works for me.
I love Jamie Foxx as an entertainer, whether it’s him making jokes, singing, or taking part in big budget blockbuster movies; Foxx never seems to disappoint. Knowing that he will be playing the role of controversial heavyweight champ Mike Tyson only ups my anticipation for this film, because I know he’s going to do the role justice (plus Tyson is training him to get into boxing shape for the film!).
However, we do have to wait at least a year before they even start filming the project, so anything can happen within that time as far as casting, script changes, or even nixing the whole film altogether.
But hopefully this film becomes Jamie’s next big biopic hit after his success with Ray!
